Northern Arizona University

This is the first LEED Platinum building in the State of Arizona. We collaborated with Hopkins Architects of the UK, and local Tucson architects Burns-Wald-Hopkins. The site and building needed to respond to a regional detention basin as part of the program. We took this as an opportunity to capitalize, capturing site-wide water and extended that strategy by collecting condensate and roof water into bio-swales to water native Ash trees, which shades the south gallery, as it moves across the site. The planting scheme is an extension of the local Ponderosa Biome as well as chapparal and riparian habitats, maximizing use of a drought tolerant, native plant list in a quickly urbanizing campus . We participated on the site design from beginning to commissioning.
