A few things I learned last week at the Land Development meeting and other Spring NAHB meetings:
The HBA of Greater Chicago commissioned a report on affordability. The report revealed that proposals for housing development within ARO Pilot areas have come to a virtual standstill due to restrictive Pilot requirements. Approved projects are not moving forward to building permit.
Also, NAHB has just released a new report- “Diversifying Housing Options with Smaller Lots and Smaller Homes”. It is a great resource that includes a database of land use and zoning strategies, best practices and case studies.
Labor issues were also a topic of discussion at many committee meetings. The construction industry added 280,000 jobs in 2018, however, as of November of 2018 there were still 278,000 job openings in construction.
Should you want to discuss these or any other land development topics with me, feel free to reach out, 303-224-9520.
