Hawthorn

Hawthorn— Jefferson County, Colorado
Client: RRCEA, LLC.
Services Provided: Urban Planning & Landscape Architecture

Hawthorn is Jefferson County’s latest environmentally conscious neighborhood north of Golden, Colorado at the northeast corner of 58th Avenue and Highway 93. This great 199 home residential neighborhood has over 25 acres of open space which includes parks, trails, playgrounds, and the preservation of the Van Bibber Creek corridor which encompasses many mature native trees, shrubs and wildlife habitats.
Consilium Design led the community design and entitlements effort for the 68 acre neighborhood that resulted in unanimous approval by the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners for zoning and final plat. Working with our client, RRCEA, and KT Engineering we took several challenges the site presented and turned them into features of the site, creating a neighborhood with unique amenities for future residents and the surrounding community.

Hawthorn benefits the greater community by:
• Preserving existing mature native trees and habitat along Van Bibber Creek in a natural open space/park setting.
• Providing variety in housing that complements and is compatible with surrounding homes and neighborhoods.
• Providing a neighborhood park along Van Bibber Creek and other open spaces that are accessible to the greater neighborhood.
• Extending the Van Bibber Creek regional trail to the intersection of HWY 93 and 58th Ave. and the existing bus stop.
• Improving storm water management along Van Bibber Creek and better managing water quality and storm water run-off from the site that will benefit the neighborhoods to the east.
